"Rīgas satiksme" to launch a new electronic pay-for-parking system
In 2009, an electronic payment system was implemented in Riga public transport. Today, four years after its launch, the system supports several other functions, including that of electronic key for pupils in several Riga schools, "Pupil’s e-card", access to free meals for people with low income, electronic purse enabling payments for municipal parking services, and, starting from January 1, 2014, also "Riga resident’s card". Having upgraded the electronic system, "Rīgas satiksme" has used it as a platform for developing a new system of paying for municipal parking services by means of SMS and the Internet. The existing clients will continue to pay for parking services like before, as co-operation with "Mobilly" will continue. At the same time, "Rīgas satiksme" has developed a new system, which is economically more advantageous for the company.
